I made ~90% of the overworld excluding art. This was made in a group of 5. After working together, I remade the combat system and other small things.
About The Game
Explore Your Brain
Walk around your brain with 4 distinct areas. You can also find ideas or moves lying around. If you walk into a cloud, it initiates a fight.
Turn-Based Combat
Fight enemies using coping mechanisms or moves that each have unique effects. Literally, fight your anxieties, such as your ugly glasses.
Anxiety While Exploring
The longer the player avoids enemies, the more their anxiety builds up, and exploring becomes almost impossible. Additionally, certain moves affect the overworld, like taking off glasses causes blindness.
Challenges
Everyone in our group was relatively new to Unity. The biggest challenge was creating a proper turn-based combat system with 16 different moves and 5 different enemies. The overworld was also challenging due to its size and complexity with the multitude of features and effects that appear over time.
Post Mortem
It's a really well-made game that captures the struggles of anxiety while managing to be fun and challenging. The overworld and art came out much better than I expected. I gained a lot of experience, and I learned a lot when I remade the combat system. We also worked well as a group, which helped out as well.
